NASABA Convention 2010

On behalf of NASABA, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each individual who was involved with the Seventh Annual NASABA Convention. From the planning team, to panelists, keynotes and conference attendees, each one of you made the event a resounding success! It was an inspiring weekend, and Boston’s legal community in particular was thrilled to host such a diverse group of attorneys from across the globe. We had an impressive turnout of over 400 attorneys attending and over a 100 high profile speakers presenting on a number of topics that included Kannon Shanmugam, Sri Srinivasan and Pratik Shah discussing their insider's view of the most recent term of the Supreme Court of the United States, Amina Wadud on Women and Minorities under Islamic Law, Neera Tanden moderating an informative panel on Health Care Reform and Neel Kashkari on his role in the Financial Bailout. The reenactment of the argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in the U.S. v. Bhagat Singh Thind case which featured the relentless questions from a panel of three Federal Judges, Judge Thapar, Judge Woodlock and Judge Gandhi was a highlight of the weekend, as were the inspiring comments on public service from the U.S. Attorney from the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara. More than ever, this year’s Convention left us with a sense of pride at the accomplishments of South Asians in the legal profession and a continued purpose to pursue and achieve in our own careers.

We hope to see you next year as NASABA continues to build networks and inspire individuals in Los Angeles! Please check back to this site and stay tuned for more updates about the Eighth Annual Convention in June, 2011.

One final parting note: We'd like to extend special gratitude to Sonjui Kumar, who has now officially finished her term as NASABA President. Not only are we grateful for Sonjui's years of service on the NASABA Executive Committee, but we are particularly grateful for her wisdom and guidance that set the tone for our weekend in Boston. While we know that Anna Sankaran and the 2011 EC will continue to make history, we will always be grateful for the foundation set by all NASABA past presidents, and in particular, the newest individual to complete that post, Sonjui Kumar.
