Current advertising is flooded
with claims of products and services
benefiting and improving the environment.
In the US, the FTC has issued
guidelines governing environmental
marketing and has prosecuted violators.
The Competition Bureau in Canada,
and regulators in the UK, EU and
Australia have also begun enforcing
claims made by businesses about
the environmental impact of their
products and perations. A panel
of experts will explain the do’s
and don’ts of green advertising,
and will discuss options for registering
enforceable green trademarks.
On a daily basis we hear different
and diametrically opposed opinions
about the state of the economy,
what can be done to repair it, when
we might emerge from it and its
effect on the globe. Hear the discussion
between economists, academics, and
in-house counsel from both western
and emerging economies about whether
the global economy is finally on
its way out of the economic crisis
that has taken its toll over the
last year or more, or whether there
is still more pain to come.
The audience will hear first hand
how prominent attorneys on both
sides of the border have achieved
great success in law, the judiciary,
politics and business, and in
which they will learn how they
can apply those experiences and
lessons to their own careers.

In uncertain economic times, clients
are increasingly wondering about
the scope and enforceability of
their complex commercial contracts
and in particular, about the provisions
addressing licensing arrangements,
indemnities, and representations
and warranties. This panel, comprised
of both experienced business litigators
and transactional attorneys, will
review and explore these provisions,
and explain both how these provisions
are likely to be interpreted by
courts, and offer their insights
on best practices at the drafting
stage to avoid judicial interpretations
that may prove costly to a client.
The domain name space will be
undergoing a significant expansion
in the coming months. Come hear
our panel of specialists discuss
the impact of the new top level
domain name rollout on brands

Session #13
Where will we make rain
in the future? At Pebble Beach
or in Tiger Woods Golf? Trends
in legal business development
in the real and virtual worlds.
With the proliferation of social
networking web sites, some argue
that the future of business development
is in the virtual world. Others
argue that significant legal engagements
can only develop through personal
connections which foster trust.
Perhaps it is a generational question
about how and where legal practitioners
develop business relationships:
meetings, dinners, golf outings,
tennis games, or on line. Hear from
marketing and business development
experts and successful rainmakers
on where the future of business
development for the legal profession
is headed.
This panel features attorneys in

discussing career options in law

seriously consider careers in law
enforcement, how to break into the

unique opportunities for South Asians
